Construct Zero launches Energy Transition Pipeline sprint project to help construction industry prepare for future market opportunities.
The Construction Leadership Council’s Construct Zero programme, co-led by Built Confidence’s Hannah Vickers, has launched a new sprint project focused on raising industry awareness of the energy transition construction pipeline and helping businesses better understand future infrastructure and construction opportunities arising from the UK's transition to net zero.
Built Confidence’s Hannah Vickers, who is also CLC Lead for Net Zero and Productivity, shared the new sprint project on stage at the Association of Consultancy and Engineering’s Parliamentary Reception in London on Monday 26 October. In her speech, which was warmly welcomed by the audience, she outlined the new project and how the CLC would be supporting the industry to build a delivery pipeline for the energy transition.
The new Energy Transition sprint project
Many construction businesses do not yet have a quantified understanding of the scale, timing or potential client base associated with future energy transition projects, particularly as policy priorities continue to evolve in response to energy security, resilience, affordability alongside net zero objectives. This creates uncertainty around investment in capability, skills, equipment and supply chains.
The project will use the Seventh Carbon Budget and current Government policy as a baseline to develop an evidence-based picture of future market opportunities across power, transport, buildings and industry.
The project will bring industry together to:
• Develop a quantified view of future energy transition markets
• Understand the likely scale of growth, key markets and future clients
• Test findings with partners and stakeholders
• Monitor policy and confidence signals that may affect delivery and investment decisions
The energy transition is set to create one of the largest construction and infrastructure markets in modern UK history. The CLC’s objective is to help businesses position themselves early, scale capability with confidence and make better-informed investment decisions.
Hannah Vickers, managing director at Built Confidence, said: “With major decisions on public spending and national priorities likely to reshape the energy transition landscape over the coming year, and with policymakers seeking to balance net zero ambitions alongside energy security, system reliability and economic growth, this project will help organisations anticipate change rather than react to it...”
